We have decided to grow Warrior Addict and open up our market-place to eco-friendly, founder led brands that complement Warrior Addict and the world of yoga. So we couldn’t be more delighted than to launch our very first one with the awesome brand Mari – founded by Maisie.
“NEVER STOP LEARNING AND GROWING! Our lives are a series of lessons that are designed to help us to grow and expand as we experience this human existence. I want to make myself proud of who I am and the only way I can do that is to keep learning how to be the best version of me, and to help lift up as many people on the way as I can!” Maisie
1.Tell us a little bit about yourself, where you are originally from and how and why art and design became such a passion for you?
Hey I’m Maisie, I don’t really know what to say about myself but I can tell you that I love old things, searching for crystals and talking to trees haha! I’ve always been a creative soul and I very fortunately grew up with a family that fully embraced and encouraged my passion for art. I had my mind dead set on being a wedding dress designer until my wonderful technician at uni questioned why I wasn’t thinking of choosing to study print, I think she could see my potential before I could. Print design is so freeing, you can literally do whatever you like and don’t have to follow any rules… which really appeals to my Aries traits! Art and design plays a part in every aspect of our lives, since the 20th Century there was a major shift in design, mass production became more and more popular and products were less focussed on design but more on functionality and speed of production. We now live in a world where things aren’t designed to hold their value or be sentimental at all, my passion stems from trying to keep old traditions alive, to design and create products that are made to last, that honour the effort and skill that our ancestors used for centuries and that provide healing through their purpose, colour and imagery.
2. Please describe Mari your brand in one sentence.
MARI is a yoga and homeware brand that focuses on reconnecting us back to nature, creating products that can provide us healing through their purpose, the materials used and also visually through colour and imagery.
3. What we love is that not only do you use natural dyes for your products but that you actually make them yourself. If any of us wanted to make a hand-made natural dye, how would we do it?
If you want to create your own dyes then this is an amazing opportunity to experiment and be free! Pretty much everything will create a dye, but certain things produce colours you wouldn’t expect… steam dyeing is a great way to get started and super easy to do! Red onion skins create loads of colour so I would start there. There are some great books about natural dyeing but also this is also a way you can reconnect to pachamama, listen to your intuition and learn from the nature that surrounds you!
4. What inspires you to create?
Where do you think that your creative path will take you next ? I find inspiration everywhere but over the last couple of years I have really tried to capture the healing properties of the natural world in my designs. Whether it is ancient dyeing techniques, crystal healing or our own individual power. Mother Nature is powerful and we have a lot to relearn from her, she inspires me always. I’m not sure where my creative path will take me but I my goal is to run retreats teaching yoga, teaching about natural dyes and creating more products that help us to engage and expand our minds, as well as, improving our physical health.
5. Finally do you have any daily mantras /quotes that you try to live by?
NEVER STOP LEARNING AND GROWING! Our lives are a series of lessons that are designed to help us to grow and expand as we experience this human existence. I want to make myself proud of who I am and the only way I can do that is to keep learning how to be the best version of me, and to help lift up as many people on the way as I can!
