How To Be A Sustainable Fashion Brand

First, no brand can be  a 100% sustainable fasion brand  it’s an impossible feat because of different interpretation of what makes a brand or a product sustainable, is it for example, a products longevity? In which case perhaps buying a 100% natural fabric isn’t the right move as these tend to last you a shorter period but then again of you chose a long-lasting fabric like polyester then the carbon footprint that it leaves is a lot higher and it takes 1000’s of years for the fabric to decompose.

We believe in ‘Improving’ or Sustainability how do we incrementally improve our brand so that it becomes more and more sustainable?  Well, we could write many things on this but let’s focus on our product and packaging to begin with.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” —Margaret Mead

1. SUSTAINABLE FABRICS

Lyocell- Made from wood pulp.

We are using a yarn called Lyocell, an amazing eco-friendly fabric that represents a milestone in the development of environmentally-sustainable textiles. Lyocell is a natural, man-made fibre, made with wood pulp from sustainable tree farms. The process is award-winning and closed-loop, which recovers or decomposes all solvents and emissions. It is 100% biodegradable and extremely comfortable.

Organic cotton – Free from pesticides

All of our cotton yarns are organic, meaning that harmful pesticides are not used on the cotton buds and also keeps the cotton pickers healthy and happy. We understand that cotton is not 100% eco-friendly due to the amount of water used to turn the fibers into cellulose, however, it’s a natural fabric that is bio-degradable and is an excellent fit when combined with our other yarns.

Recycled Polyetser – Made from recycled plastic water bottles!

Our inversion shorts are made from Lyocell and recycled polyester (PET )made from recycled plastic bottles. The energy needed to make PET is less than it takes to make traditional polyester and it also keeps plastic bottles out of landfills.

2. PACKAGING

Our products will be shipped in custom-designed, recycled, and reusable poly mailers, offering versatility beyond their initial purpose. When returning products, simply use the same mailer; our distribution center will efficiently reuse them for other customers, contributing to sustainability efforts.

3. OUR FACTORIES

Our garments are manufactured in a family-run mill in Portugal, which we have visited many times. The working conditions are exceptional - there is even an organic veggie plot used to make organic vegetable soup for their employees.

5. LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

Our fabric supplier, garment and bag manufacturer are within a few kilometers from one another, so our carbon footprint in terms of our production cycle is very low.

6. ANTI- FAST FASHION

For the time being, we do not intend developing a new collection every season. Our goal is to produce yoga and activewear clothes that are well made from quality fabrics and are therefore designed to last. Whilst we love street style and use this as our inspiration, we will tease out any /unnecessary fashion whims to bring you long-lasting street style.
